It was George Bernard Shaw who said, “I can think of no other edifice constructed by man as altruistic as a lighthouse. They were built only to serve”. This is an apt description of the Lighthouse Baby Shelter and all that it has done to provide safety for orphaned and abandoned infants and children.
Founded in 2008, the home is now at full capacity, housing a number of children, some of whom have been orphaned due to HIV/AIDS, and others who have suffered severe neglect and even abuse. Eleanor Dustan, founder and caretaker to the children who stay at Lighthouse, expresses endless gratitude for the support that the shelter has received from the community as this is their only source of funding. We, at Doober, were moved by the Lighthouse’s impact, and we donated paintwork as well as tiling work to the shelter. We helped repaint and tile the children’s bedroom and donated a maintenance voucher to assist them with their needs for the future.
Undeniably, Eleanor has done a stellar job in ensuring that children have a home that they can feel safe and happy in, with a beautiful garden and playroom for the children to learn through play. Doober is honored to have been able to assist the Lighthouse Baby Shelter, and we encourage all who can to help keep their lamp burning by offering their assistance. The Lighthouse Baby Shelter can be reached on their website and on social media.
